Indika

INDIKA — A bleak journey into faith, suffering and despair STEAMOS STABILITY: I played for over six hours on valves new Steam Machine and in that time I experienced one green screen followed by a crash. Apart from that, it ran well for the most part. With how quirky the game is I thought it was intentional until I heard the computer booting up again. I did also run it on the steam deck but you would need to reduce the settings as it runs hot and as a result the fan can get loud. Visually, INDIKA is excellent. The environments can look almost photorealistic at times (I particularly liked the sparkly effect on the snow), which contrasts nicely with the short retro pixel-art mini-games. Some of these made me want to throw the controller at the screen, although I suspect that was partly the developers' intention. GAMEPLAY: The box-pushing puzzles initially made me think, "Not one of these again. Why do games keep doing these?" But they turned out to be more inventive than expected, including a piano-related achievement I discovered through trial and error and another involving a mirrored environment. Despite some frustrating gameplay, I found INDIKA memorable and well worth experiencing. It's not always enjoyable in the traditional sense, but it certainly gives you something to think about.

The Shapeshifting Detective

Worth a play. Can be a bit slow at times, but I kept coming back to finish it. The radio adds some extra content, although I skipped most of it. I believe there are 3 possible murderers depending on your choices, so I considered replaying it. You can skip dialogue on a second playthrough, but I found replaying a bit tedious. Would have been nice to have saves at key points to see the different outcomes. The acting can be a bit hammy at times, but I think it suits the overall FMV style of the game. Deleted it for now, but may come back for another playthrough and the achievements. Good little game for the Steam Deck too. Low requirements, runs quietly, and is perfect for playing before bed. I've played quite a few games by Wales Interactive, and this is one of the better ones. I'd recommend it if you enjoy FMV games.

Lunar Axe

Lovely artstyle but the controls in it are terrible. Sometimes you have to light torches and if the lighter is not just right won't light. Also the hidden objects are very small to see and movement directions not always obvious you do have a icon you can click to highlight directions. I think a beautiful artwork game let down by its controls. Also the ending was abrupt. Thought the snake was well done.

Dark Arcana: The Carnival

One of the better hidden-object games from Artifex Mundi. Bought this in a bundle back in 2024 and only just got around to playing it. I originally picked it because it had better reviews than most of the others, and I'm glad I did. The story was actually interesting enough that I wanted to follow it, and thankfully there were no annoying morphing collectibles that are ridiculously easy to miss. I managed to finish it without a guide, which is always a bonus. I also really liked having the animal companion that can help you out and interact with things. I think they did something similar in Clockwork Tales: Of Glass and Ink, which I'd also recommend. The animation is a bit uncanny valley, but it's an older game so I'll let that slide. Overall, it feels like more effort went into this one than some of the later titles. Definitely worth a play if you enjoy hidden-object games.

Family Mysteries 3: Criminal Mindset

The puzzles are a mixed bag. Some are really easy, while others are quite tricky for a casual game. Still, amazing what you can do with a bit of WD-40 and duct tape! 😂 Bit of a shame seeing the direction Artifex Mundi have gone in since these games, with more focus on free-to-play mobile games. I much prefer the old buy-it-once-and-you-own-it approach. Not a bad game, just not as good as the first two. i would recommend on sale not at full price.

Luna's Room

I picked this up last night as part of the Fanatical Build Your Own Killer Bundle (Fall 2026). It can be played through in around an hour and has very low system requirements, which made it exactly what I was looking for: a short game to play on my Steam Deck before bed without having the fan going crazy. Out of the five games I bought in the bundle, this is the first one I played, and I really enjoyed it. The story is bittersweet and deals with themes surrounding death, so that may be triggering for some players. Personally, I thought it was handled well, and I would recommend giving it a try if you're comfortable with those themes. Kudos to the pixel art and the music, which both do a great job of setting the mood. I also thought the game did a great job of capturing the attitude of a cat. If you've ever lived with one, some of its behaviour will probably feel very familiar! Like a lot of point-and-click adventure games, though, it has that one moment where everything is going great until you're completely stuck on one tiny thing. For me, that was the mould on the wall. I won't mention the solution here because I don't want to spoil it, but it was definitely one of those "how was I supposed to figure that out?" moments. I also noticed that the game is available as part of the Dark Short Adventures Bundle on Steam, although that bundle only contains three games. I actually think bundling short games like this is a really good idea. I'd love to see it done on a larger scale, perhaps with several short games connected by a hub area and some loose themes tying them together, similar to how the Dread X Collection games are structured. I think that would be an ideal way to sell and experience a collection of shorter adventures. Overall: 7/10. At full price, I don't think I could recommend it based purely on value for money, given how short it is. However, if you can pick it up as part of a bundle or on sale, I'd give it an 8.5/10.

Super Donuts!

Great game it controls really well and worth a donation. No floatiness in the controls, easy to pick up and play and suitable for all ages. I watched the development story on YouTube and I hope it is more successful this time but if not it is a creation to be proud of. I have played it using the controller keyboard/WASD support on steamdeck.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined

97% completed. I am not spending hours trying to get rare items in the Lucky Panel mini game wonderful game otherwise. Platinum would not be enjoyable to get and time to move onto other games.

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game

Fully finished the RDA side doing a double cross so have got to endgame did not bother doing the full other side as repetitive and have seen all the game has to offer. Played on projector in 3D.

Discworld MUD

Play every now and then for decades now. I play as a witch character handy to use broom to fly about. I will have to get back to it at some point. I also had an assassin character but they got deleted was not logged in for a long time with them.

Away: The Survival Series

Frustrating controls. If getting free or deep sale worth a go. Not one I will be completing the trophy set on.

Spirit Hunter: Death Mark

Completed and enjoyed it apart from crashing every 15mins on the steamdeck (is meant to be verified). Had to save as often as I could so could fast forward to continue the story. Would have preferred just sticking to visual novel aspect as some of the puzzles were not great and needed a guide. Also the women characters seemed to end up in more distressing circumstances more often than the men usually with little clothing. Chapter 6 set in a red light district hotel so not one for younger players. The final battles for each chapter where well done and some really creepy artwork.

Dread Delusion

Loved this game, an exploration game full of lore and backstory. Played right through to completion over 8 days approx 45 hours with some idling when I forgot to turn it off or had to do something else. Played through on my steamdeck but had to change some settings to make it run well. I had to turn off half rate shading and increase the frame limit to 60 otherwise swinging the sword felt too slow. With the small screen the graphics look well. I think this is more a handheld game than a big screen game. Don't have to fight if you don't want to as can outrun most. If you do have to fight can do the old stab then go backward let stamina recharge and stab forwards again, or sneak and kill in 1 hit unless it is towards the endgame. I know some people might find the fighting not complex or requiring skills but for me who is more interested in exploring I was happy with it. Good that xp/delusions is rewarded for exploration rather than killing things. I didn't die until I got the airship when I accidentally fell off it. In one case I thought I was going to die after falling off a cliff at Progress but managed to cast a home spell before hitting the ground so was still able to get the Iron Will achievement. I actually felt bad about some of the choices I had to make as no obvious good outcome in some. Thinking about the choices made it a good game if I didn't care would just click through the text to get to the next objective but the stories were engaging. I liked the agility spell that meant I could jump off cliffs. Using landmarks to navigate using the map without having hand held was a breath of fresh air. Some items found changed the gameplay such as rings that regenerate magic/stamina, boots that made you run faster. Upgrading clothing to help pass skill checks. Some minor issues I was unable to upgrade the emberian armour but could upgrade the helm. I think the airship came too late on or there could have been more islands to explore with the airship. The airship was glitchy difficult to park at the dedicated docks and if tried to anchor might have ended up passing through housing. I think a bed on the airship or ability to craft on it would have been a nice additional extra. More crafting options would have been good. Why have a delay in loot popping after the kill I found this annoying. Quests seemed to be mostly bug free but in one quest I killed the mercenaries but annoyingly the side quest remained active despite being unable to give anyone the requested stolen item. The music added to the atmosphere with a few different tracks but could have done with more variety. Maybe more dungeons there were approx 2 extended mines that could be classified as dungeons but I did like exploring above ground as could see landmarks in the distance.

Night Book

Not in the same league as The Bunker. Night Book is ok if in a bundle or deep sale. I acquired it through the fanatical FMV bundle. I have played through twice and deleted not caring enough to get all the endings. You can skip scenes on replay but can't fastforward chat messages. Annoying that despite viewing the story via her computer you can't interact with it which i think would add depth even if just to view a few emails or family photos. I would give it 5/10. Plays flawlessly on the steamdeck with no crashes.

The Bunker

Is stable on the steamdeck with no crashes on my playthrough. This is my first FMV game and was bought as part of the fanatical FMV bundle. I had wishlisted on playstation but did not buy as have heard bad things about fmv games. I enjoyed this and played through in one sitting. The real life nuclear bunker was the star of the show the sole survivor grew on me and was kept engaged till the end. I think one playthrough is enough as is slow paced which works well first time but would be tedious on replay so would take in mind if paying full price can complete within a few hours. Sound effects and acting were excellent. I would have liked a fast forward feature so i could get the collectables i missed. I give the game 8/10

The Complex

This is less a game and more an interactive film but keep me engaged till the end. No crashes on Steamdeck. Takes about 1.5 hours for 1 playthrough and I think have got the good ending. Some plot points did not seem to be followed through but might pick different choices next time and see what the outcome is. I would give 7/10. This is the third FMV game by Wales Interactive I have played. The other 2 are The Bunker (I enjoyed it more) which I also recommend and Night Book which I don't recommend.

Little Big Adventure: Twinsen's Quest

Nostalgic value 100%. I am now approaching endgame have got up to the Dino-Fly and had big smile on my face. I am really enjoying it and hope to see LBA2 remake getting made. Seems to be stable on the steam deck. I like the new adventure log which shows pictures of the progress through the game and the new holomap shows more detail than before. Artwork is beautiful. Negatives-Few technical issues where standing on a grate to go to a lower level sometimes it will go down without the character and have to reset the game as he will not move. Drowning is instant death but in the original it just used a clover up, there are no blue mana containers now so can spam the ball without consequence this could be positive or negative depending on your viewpoint. No sneak mode. Also the temple of Bu is much easier I don't miss the instant death on one of the rolling logs but there is a problem with the ball not always hitting the levers if not in the exact sweet spot new players might get frustrated and think that is is not possible to do and quit. Also some of the English voices does not match what the text reads. Summary- great game if you have played the original and I hope new players enjoy it as much as I have. A few technical difficulties but imagine these will be fixed on a patch at some point. Bring on the sequel.

Botany Manor

Great game and does not overstay its welcome you could complete in around 4-5 hours but I took my time to enjoy the scenery. I played through it on the steam deck no issues. The puzzles are not too hard as long as you pay attention to the clues. I would have liked for the clues to remain in the book to read rather than having to go back to where you found them. If they have a similar game/sequel I would buy it.

The Space-Eating Croc

Played through to get the 2 endings at least I think there are only 2. Still not sure what it was about but wonder if some of the plot was lost on translation. Good that it had some puzzles to solve rather than just being a visual novel. Puzzles were fair and did not have to use a guide. Stable on steam deck but had to use the virtual keyboard for 1 puzzle near the end. Worth a play on sale. Would have liked some achievements.

Dragonyhm

I followed this from when it was originally a demo known as Dragonborne got it when still available digitally on incube games but now on cart only.

Portal for the C64

https://jamiefuller.itch.io/portal-for-the-c64 this is very short but worth a play. Good background music.

Doc Cosmos

I have the original C64 version and bought the GBC colour ROM from Bitsoft, great game, come Christmas I will play through the Christmas version Doc Xmas which is available on itch. I must admit I cheated using save states, a continue function might have been useful especially on the C64 as the joystick not always the easiest to use.

Wolfling

Like the controls and changing into a wolf on my backlog to play through fully

C64anabalt

Soundtrack made by the same person that did Super Meat Boy. Not a game to play for ages but good for a few minutes in between games which I keep coming back to

LuftrauserZ

Good game but I do prefer the PS VITA version but good to have on the C64

Briley Witch Chronicles

RPG for the C64 not finished yet but charming so far. There is also a sequel.

Wyjan@wyjan65 · Sep 10, 2026
Lykia: The Lost Island

Got the physical version of this and have completed it. I wish there was a game like this for the C64 back when it was in it heyday. Came with a cloth map.

The Year After

Bittersweet, I found out who the ninja character really was, I played on ds lite on flashcart but seems the browser version is better as includes sound. Bought via itch.

Wyjan@wyjan65 · Sep 10, 2026
Mona and the Witch's Hat Deluxe

There are two versions of this found a GB version no colour but better music and this version. The non GBC version is available elsewhere on the web. Only 4 levels on each and would have loved to have seen more.

Wyjan@wyjan65 · Sep 10, 2026
Pine Creek

Worth a play bought digital off Incube 8 but also available on steam. I think this is one better for original hardware to keep it charm . Seems a lot of modern day releases for gameboy are horror.

Wyjan@wyjan65 · Sep 10, 2026
Opossum Country

A great horror game for the Gameboy, loving the silent hill vibe. Man out doing a food delivery and got more than he bargained for. Set in a trailer park and a girl has gone missing. Creepy characters.

There's Nothing to Do in This Town

Short game completed comes up on the GOG search surprised for such a small game to be included, find coins to buy at the vinyl store by doing various tasks. Find the local zombie hunter.

Wyjan@wyjan65 · Sep 10, 2026
Goodboy Galaxy

I now have the full game on steam and GBA. It is a beautiful game still awaiting my physical version following the dispute with first press games who are refusing to give refund for their failed deliveries, fingers crossed I will eventually get my physical cart and refund from First Press.

Wyjan@wyjan65 · Sep 10, 2026
The Machine

Played through once did the hippy quest line. Will play through again as seems multiple outcomes to have. I bought it off incube8games would have liked to buy the cart but the postage is too excessive for me and the digital version is just fine and you get the downloadable instruction manual and box art with some interesting desktop backgrounds.

Wyjan@wyjan65 · Sep 10, 2026
Retro Quiz Tower

Quiz game about retro games surprised at how many I was able to get right first time, music is good. Found the walking controls a little difficult but not needed to be precise as not a action game.

Anguna: Warriors of Virtue

In progress seems polished. You swing a sword like in the early Zelda games. So far a few different enemy types mainly blobs with different colours but attack in a different way. Also managed to get a bow will definitely keep on my flashcard to give another go when have some downtime.
